MemsFCR Android Application – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-14

MemsFCR (“the app”) is a diagnostic and trip-computer tool for Rover MEMS 1.6/1.9 engine ECUs. This policy explains what the app does with your data. In short: the app has no account system, no analytics and no advertising, and by default nothing leaves your device.

Data the app uses on your device

  • Location (GPS): used to calculate road speed and trip distance. It is read only while the app is open and speed tracking is switched on. The app never requests background location. Location is obtained through Android and Google Play services.
  • ECU data: sensor readings and fault codes read from your vehicle over the USB cable. This data stays on your device.
  • Settings and vehicle profiles: display mode, units, fuel tank size, fuel economy and trip distance. Stored locally on your device.
  • Demo ECU mode: if you turn this on in Settings, the app replays sample data bundled inside the app instead of reading a vehicle. It does not access your vehicle and sends nothing anywhere.

Data sent off your device

By default, nothing leaves your device.

If you turn on Road Speed Limits in Settings (it is off by default), the app looks up the speed limit of the road you are on using OpenStreetMap data from public Overpass API servers. To do this, each lookup sends a request containing a small rectangle of map coordinates (latitude and longitude) around your current position. While you are moving, the rectangle extends further in your direction of travel. The request is sent over HTTPS to one of these servers, and is retried on another if the first does not respond:

  • overpass-api.de
  • maps.mail.ru
  • overpass.private.coffee
  • overpass.atownsend.org.uk

As with any web request, the operator of the server can see your device’s IP address and the time of the request. The app sends no account, name, email, advertising identifier or device identifier. The servers are run by third parties, whose own privacy policies apply to how they handle requests.

You can turn Road Speed Limits off at any time. Requests stop immediately and the speed limit sign is cleared.

What we don’t do

We do not run our own servers, collect analytics or crash reports, show ads, sell data, build profiles, or share data with anyone other than the optional Overpass requests described above.

Your choices

  • Decline or revoke the location permission in Android settings. Speed and trip features will not work without it, but ECU features will.
  • Keep Road Speed Limits off (the default) so no location is ever sent.
  • Uninstall the app to delete everything it has stored.

Retention and deletion

The app stores its settings and vehicle profiles only on your device. We hold no copy of your data. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

Children

The app is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s data handling changes, this page will be updated and the date above changed.
